Message After 15 years the bushings tend to leave slack so the subframe can slam against the body. You loosen the bolts, insert the spacers, and tighten them down so the subframe is securely mounted.

Ideally you'd drop the subframe and replace the bushings entirely, but you're talking about major work there vs. a half hour job.
